Brynn’s 2nd Birthday!

On Sept. 8th Brynn turned 2! It’s crazy to think she’s not a baby anymore (although I probably still baby her too much).  We celebrated on the 7th since Ryan was leaving for a week long road trip on the 8th.

Leslie decided on a last minute trip to Corpus. The girls were so excited to see her and we had fun on Friday night making cakes, and watching Full House. I used to watch countless episodes of Full House on TGIF with Leslie in my parents bed while we were little. It was fun watching it with her again along with both my girls (sadly I still know what is going to happen in every episode).

After the girls went to bed we made lots of buttercream and peanut butter buttercream icing. Yes, you read that correctly, peanut butter buttercream icing. It’s life changing, in the way where it’s so addicting you don’t realize how much you ate until you feel like death the next morning, but it was so good that you wait all day to eat the cake that has said frosting on it. It’s probably something I would ask to be included in my death row meal (not that I plan on having that happen).

001 Said peanut butter buttercream icing. The color was prefect for Mickey’s face. We just had to make different colors for the mouth and ears. OMG was that cake good. Oh and it was a peanut butter cake too. Life changing!

On Saturday afternoon Marlu and Roger came over to help Brynn celebrate her birthday. We cooked lunch, opened presents and had our first cake of the day. A GREAT cookie cake with buttercream icing (just regular). It was a huge hit. Leslie and Ryan voted it number 1. So dang good. I hit two baking homeruns on those.

After everyone took naps, or maybe just Leslie and I, we ate dinner and then our great neighbors The Fergusons came over. Brynn and Reese LOVE Mr. and Mrs. Ferguson. Ryan and I do too. It’s great having neighbors you enjoy. They joined us for cake and football.

On Sunday, her actual birthday, it rained off and on, so we stayed home and played. After dinner I got out the small piece of cake that was left (Mickey’s ear) and let the girls have it. We sang Happy Birthday one more time and had Brynn blow out some more candles. Brynn must think it’s her birthday everyday!

Brynn had her 2 year check up this a.m. She’s once again topping the carts of height. She is in the 90% for other kids her age and in the 75% for weight. Reese better quit picking on her now, because Brynn is about to be bigger than Reese and I think that will be sooner than later.

We are off to College Station this weekend for the BIG ‘Bama game. We’re not actually going to the game but we are going to be tailgating and Uncle Bill is coming in for the big game as well. Mom and I will probably take the girls back to the condo to watch the game, as Kong would probably run all over campus with me chasing after her. We’ll have yet another cake this weekend to celebrate Brynn’s birthday one more time.

I can’t wait to be back in Aggieland! It’s really one of my most favorite places in the world, even on a game weekend with a million people there.

1st day of Kindergarten!

It’s official! She’s in school as I type this, hopefully having a GREAT first day. We dropped her off and left her to color the work Ms. Moore had on her desk. She said she was nervous as she got out of the car but we assured her she was ready for school and there was nothing to be nervous about! I can’t wait to hear about her day!

Countdown to kindergarten

Well as I type this Reese is a mere 4 days away from starting kindergarten. She is VERY excited and looking forward to meeting her teacher tonight. She will be in Mrs. Moore’s class.

In the last month or so we’ve been trying to keep ourselves busy. We had two great Sunday trips to the beach. We normally spend LOTS of time at the beach in the summers but this summer has been busier than normal so we really only made it to the beach a handful of times. We were glad to pack in two long days at the beach with Ryan in August.

003005What happens when you pull your camera out of the climate controlled car right after getting to the beach and then having the heat and humidity fog your lens.

009Brynn has no fear of the water. She runs right down and starts jumping over the waves. She loves being at the beach, running around and playing in the sand.

013Reese has a boogie board and shortly after she came in from riding the waves Brynn decided she wanted to as well.015

My favorite thing about the girls is how well they really play together (94% of the time) Here is an example. Reese is more than willing to pull Brynn around and Brynn is thrilled to get to try out the boogie board.

Last week we took Reese to Schlitterbahn. In case you don’t know what it is, it’s the hottest coolest time in Texas…and also one of the best water parks in the world. It’s original park is located about 10 min from where Ryan’s parents live so it’s easy to go. We left Brynn at home with Oma, for a fun day, and we took our big girl to the park. She had lots of fun riding the rides. She loves the lazy river and the rapids as well. It was our second year to do it and I think Reese enjoys that special day with just us. Soon we’ll have to take Brynn but I think Reese probably has 2 more years before we bring Kong along for the day. Brynn had a great time at Oma’s house and I have no doubt loved the special one on one time she got with Oma.

We also headed back to Geronimo last weekend for Lucy and Nora’s birthday. Our nieces turned one last week so we headed up for the big party. The girls had a great time playing with everyone. Reese got to see her second cousin Atlee (they are 5 days apart) and as always they had a blast playing together. Brynn played with Emery and we finally got to meet baby Sutton. It was nice seeing everyone.

002 We were heading out to our new favorite weekend dessert spot. Frozen Yogurt. You can’t believe how good that stuff is. You can put it in the bowl yourself, add your own toppings and you pay what it weighs. A concept most cities have at this point but we got one in Calallen towards the end of the spring and it’s our favorite place. They change flavors a lot and each time we go we think, “Oh this is my new favorite”…White Chocolate Moose is still high on my favorite list. It was still sunny when we left the house so Brynn slapped on some glasses.

013As our last week of summer draws to a close we have been trying to pack it with special things before Reese heads to school. Last night we hit the Hooks Game.

015Brynn sat right down and watched the game like she was the biggest baseball fan ever. She cheered when they had good plays, clapped to all the music…she had a blast.

Today we’re headed to the pool for another day of jumping off the diving board (or side of the pool if you’re Brynn) and some last minute swimming. Lately with it being so close to school starting we are the only people at the pool. It’s kind of nice because then the kids can sort of do what they want.  Later tonight as I mentioned we’re headed to meet the teacher.

Tomorrow we’re taking Reese out to lunch for her last weekday at home, and then in the evening we’re headed to the Calallen football scrimmage to watch Ryan referee.

Next week I will post some pictures of Reese’s first day of school. I know she’s thrilled…I just think a little someone is going to have a HARD time with sister being gone all day…because that little someone LOVES playing with her big sister!!!
